Facilitator: Eng-Chew Ang
Eng-Chew Ang holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
He started to read about meditation and began a meditation practice as a teenager by practicing about 5 minutes a day, and by progressively increasing a few minutes a day, he eventually increased his practice to 3 hours daily.
In his 20’s, Eng Chew started to learn about Zen teachings and contemplated on Zen Kōans and the teaching of the Mahayana Sutras.
From 2003 to 2013, in his 30’s, he practiced Zen with a Japanese Zen teacher “Joshu Sasaki Roshi”, by attending one to two 7-day retreats a year. During that time, he led sitting and walking meditation practices once a week and shared Zen teaching with others in a group meeting.
In 2014, he conducted a three-month personal meditation retreat at the American Bodhi Center.
From 2017 to 2020, he conducted short Zen retreats once a week to a few people
interested in Zen practice

Currently, he is conducting an online group meeting discussing Zen Kōans practice twice a month.

Zen Koan to reflect on:
A monk asked the Zen master Tozan, “What is the Buddha?”
Tozan replied, “Three pounds of flax”.
